If you've tried updating DD-WRT and it looks like the flash succeeded but you're still stuck on your old firmware version — this is a known bug in three specific beta builds, and it's a quick fix once you know what's actually happening.
I traced this with a serial console connection straight to the router's boot log: the firmware IS writing correctly to the alternate partition. The bug is that the boot partition environment variable never gets flipped, so on reboot the router just goes right back to the same (buggy) partition it was already on. It looks like the update failed. It didn't — it just never switched.
This happened on my Linksys MR7350, and separately on my MX5300 — a completely different router — so it's not a hardware issue, it's the firmware build.

🔒 Complete DD-WRT Guest Network Isolation: Hide the Router From Insecure IoT Devices! Welcome back to the channel! In this follow-up networking guide, we are taking router security to the next level using open-source DD-WRT firmware on the Linksys MR7350. If your smart home or IoT gadgets are running on a default out-of-the-box wireless configuration, your entire home network could be at risk. While standard guest network isolation stops your smart camera from looking at your laptop or phone, those compromised devices can still see your router. If a malicious actor hacks an insecure smart plug or thermostat, they can target your router directly and seize total control of your network. In this video, I will show you exactly how to jail your IoT devices by completely bypassing the main router interface. We will build a dedicated network bridge, assign the virtual guest interfaces, map out a custom IP scheme, and kill all tracking routes back to the main login gateway—routing your guest traffic straight out to the internet. Note: Make sure you've watched Part 2 of this series to ensure your basic DD-WRT home configuration matches mine before proceeding. In this video, I’m correcting a previous claim: you DO NOT need a serial connection to revert the EA8300 from DD-WRT back to stock firmware. Huge shoutout to @BarlaleYT for the tip—I’m glad to be able to share this much easier method with the community. We will be using the command line (SSH) to flash the OEM firmware directly to the alternate partition.
